Online streaming of Bob Dylan's music skyrocketed after the singer-songwriter won the 2016 Nobel Prize for Literature on Thursday in a decision that stunned prize watchers.
Digital music platform Spotify said streams for Dylan's songs had jumped by a whopping 512 percent globally one day after his win, the Associated Press reported.
His most listened to song was "Like a Rolling Stone," which was streamed at a 258 percent increase.
Dylan, 75, was the first songwriter to win the prestigious award and was honored "for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition," the Swedish Academy said.
"Dylan has the status of an icon. His influence on contemporary music is profound," it wrote in biographical notes about the famously private singer.
True to character, the famously private Dylan has given minimal public acknowledgment to the win.
His official Twitter account, used primarily for promotional purposes, posted a notice of the win and re-tweeted a congratulatory message from US President Barack Obama.
Dylan and the rest of the 2016 Nobel laureates will receive their awards -- a gold medal and a diploma -- at a formal ceremony in Stockholm on December 10, the anniversary of the death of prize creator Alfred Nobel.
