Tunisian musicologist and singer Dorsaf Hamdani is due to perform at Cairo’s El-Genaina Theatre on Thursday 27 October.

Hamdani is an award-winning singer and musicologist. She scooped the Golden Record Award at the 1996 Tunisian Song Festival and ranked third at the 1995 Arabic Music Festival in Jordan.

She performs songs from Tunisian and Arabic music repertoires.

Hamdani developed a passion for music at an early age, and “thanks to her grandmother, Dorsaf could obtain the best of the local singing and oral tradition,” as mentioned on her official Facebook page.

With the assistance of her father, himself a violinist, Hamdani went on to practice and study music, graduating with a degree in musicology in 1998 before proceeding to study at the Higher Institute of Music in Tunisia.

Hamdani also acquired an MA from the Sorbonne University in Paris in 2000.

Hamdani has performed with established maestros, including Salah Ghoubachi and Selim Sahab, and also in concerts with different orchestras around the world.
